Morzine FAQs

How do you get to Morzine?

The most popular way to travel to Morzine is by plane. Morzine is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Geneva airport and there are a range of transfers available – see below.

You can also get to Morzine by train. The Eurostar takes you into Paris where you can take the SNCF TGV that goes to Cluses or Thonon-Les-Bain. From there you can arrange a transfer to Morzine resort. Please note that the Snow Train service (which allows snow sports luggage to be carried on board) is no longer running as of Winter 2020/21 and you will not be able to carry skis/snowboard on the usual Eurostar service.

If you prefer to drive, Morzine is about a 9 hour drive from Calais if you take the toll roads. The tolls will cost around €60.

Private and Shared Airport Transfers: Updated: Winter 2025/26

The sooner we book your transfers, the lower the price we will be able to secure. So once you have your flight details, please let us know and we will be able to confirm. We are not able to guarantee requests for airport transfers made within 4 weeks of your dates of travel.Your flight details will be requested in your online booking portal, where you can also select a private transfer option, which will automatically be added to your booking. We will be in touch to confirm all details with you prior to departure.

PRIVATE TRANSFER

Great for groups of 8 or fewer who wish to travel directly from the airport to the chalet.

€300(Per van, each way)

SHARED TRANSFER

If your party is arriving at different times of the day, you may wish to consider a shared transfer.

€50 (Per person, each way)

What is a shared transfer?
All transfers are door to door

The maximum waiting time for a customer having met the transfer representative in the arrivals hall is 45 minutes.

Pick-up times for departures are between 3 to 4 hours before the scheduled flight departure time (3.5 to 4.5 for Avoriaz).

These rules only apply for flights between 09:00 & 21:00, outside of these times, the maximum waiting time at the airport increases to 1.5 hours and the pick up time window changes to 3 to 5 hours before the flight time (3.5 to 5.5 for Avoriaz).

All shared transfers involve sharing a vehicle with other customers who have similar flight times and are going to the same, or a nearby resort.

A Shared Transfer may involve a short amount of time waiting at the airport for other customers. The rules defining the waiting time for the different types of shared transfers are described below. However, in all cases if a flight is delayed by more than one-hour then the customer will have to wait for the next available transfer, which could be on the next day if no further shared transfers are available.

GVA Airport > Morzine
09:00 – 21:00: Maximum wait of 45 minutes
21:00 – 09:00: Maximum wait of 90 minutes

Pick-up times for departures are set by the transfer provider and they will send an SMS message the day before they are due to leave with their exact pick up time. If the pick up time is within the allowed time window (described below) then these are not flexible and cannot be changed – if a customer wishes to choose their pick up time, they must book a Private Transfer.

What happens if I arrive late?
> Should you arrive at the chalet after dinner time, we will pop your dinner to one side and reheat once you have arrived.
> Should you arrive later than 21:00, your hosts will either leave your dinner for you to reheat or if you prefer, can leave a cheese and charcuterie board or soup for you to help yourself to once your hosts have welcomed you in.
> If arriving after chalet hours i.e 22:30, a small fee of €20 is due to cover the call out of our team to be at the chalet to provide the same warm welcome to the chalet.

Is Morzine good for beginners?

Morzine is ideal for beginners as it has a range of gentle slopes. You can also get cost-effective lift passes for beginners and there are a number of ski schools that offer lessons for beginners too.

Can you recommend a ski school in Morzine/Avoriaz?

My parent’s generation loves winter sports, my generation loves winter sports. For the longevity of winter sports, we need to ensure future generations love winter sports too!

Ski lessons.

Private vs Group

This is how we see it, in the context of the chalets that we run.

Private (and small group)

Group

1    +   Choose your instructor    –   Can’t choose your instructor
2    +   Can sometimes change meeting place        Fixed meeting places
3    +   Smaller classes resulting in quicker progression       Larger classes, though can be more social
4        More expensive    +   Less expensive

Private lessons (and small groups):

Like with learning anything a good teacher can make all the difference which is why we can highly recommend both

Private snowboard lessons

Group lessons

  • For group lessons our recommendation depends on if you are staying in our town centre chalets (Le Manoir, Colibris, Grand Sapin, Ibex, Petit Cham), our Prodains chalet (Chalet Atelier), our Montriond chalets (Chalet Meuniers, La Chaumine and Chalet Alba) and the start day of your holiday.
  • N.B. we have a specific page for children’s ski school recommendations here

As a general rule of thumb the larger the ski school the more cost effective though price is as always not everything so best to look at recent reviews too. Be sure to make sure that the lessons start on the Monday if your stay is Sunday – Sunday.

  • Central Morzine: You can find a list of options here . ESF and Easy2ride are the 2 largest ski schools. BASS and New Generation are also  well reviewed
  • Prodains: If you are staying in our Prodain chalet, you should take your lessons in Avoriaz as this is much closer to the chalets than Morzine. Private ski lessons are ideal as you can request to meet at the top of the cable car. You can find a list of options here. We recommend Avoriaz Alpine Ski School as the lessons start on a Monday. ESF and Evolution 2 have also been popular with guests.
  • Montriond: Esf Montriond
  • ALL CHALETS  for kids lessons please see our dedicated page here

Meeting places

  • Changing the meeting place if possible is helpful with our Prodains chalets. This is because the meeting point for the group lessons requires one getting up the cable car, then up a chair lift whereas a private lesson can meet you at the top of the cable car. A small difference however a helpful one.
  • With Morzine lessons if you meet at the top of the cable car, then you don’t loose lesson time going up in the cable car.

Can we book a ski locker?

SKI LOCKERS FOR CENTRAL MORZINE GUESTS

Le Manoir, Colibris, and Grand Sapin — are just a few hundred metres from the cable car, so most guests find they don’t need lockers. That said, families with young children, for example, may find them convenient to reserve.

Lockers are located at the base of the Pleney cable car. They should be booked well in advance, as availability is limited. The cost is around €11 per day (for up to 5 people) and includes boot warmers.

RESERVE LOCKER: MORZINE >>

SKI LOCKERS FOR PRODAINS GUESTS

Chalet Atelier, while located around 600m from the Prodains cable car, does have a private shuttle service for guests. Collecting you from the bottom of the Prodains Express, we will transport your skis back to the chalet with you. If you would still prefer to secure a ski locker in Avoriaz, there are lockers located at the top of the telecabine.

They should be booked well in advance, as availability is limited. The cost is around €12-15 per day (for up to 5 people) and includes boot warmers.
