Les Carroz

Les Carroz – “Who told you about this French secret?”

Snuggled into the 4th largest connected resort in Europe, Les Carroz has all the charm of a traditional French village and all the great skiing of a larger resort (but with quieter pistes…) It’s a resort to fall in love with once discovered, several of our guests now own properties here.

Les Carroz is just an hour from Geneva and is, the only village in the domain apart from Flaine that you can ski down to. There are lots of good restaurants throughout the village’s pretty centre and some great bars too (check out La Pointe Noire’s live music and DJ nights, the Marlow’s yards of lager and the Cave 54’s wine vault). Les Carroz has everything you need to entertain a family or group of friends.

    Chalet Deux Freres

Built when only the best plots were available. 200m from the telecabine.

Skiology’s Chalet Deux Freres is only 290m from the telecabine in Les Carroz and just a short walk from the centre of the village. The chalet’s excellent location within this relatively undiscovered resort keeps our Skiologists come back time and time again!

Click on the map below to view a piste map of the entire Grand Massif ski area. The ski area has 265 km of pistes. That’s 146 runs in snow-sure traditionally French resorts.

Les Carroz and the Grand Massif ski area have an abundance of blue runs, 65 to be exact, and 20 green runs (the longest is a winding 5km through the trees in Morillon)

And for the more advanced skiers and snowboarders 49 red runs and 19 blacks. The whole area has lots to offer for off-piste too with powder bowls between pistes and some harder-to-reach un-pisted runs reached by what can only be described as leg-burning drag lifts!

        What the press say

80 percent of the slopes are north facing, so hold the snow well. (That means the snow will be held for longer due to less exposure to the sun. One can also generally add 300m of elevation to a North slope when comparing it to a Southerly facing slope due to the sun’s effect on Southerly slopes)Telegraph

Les Carroz snow vs Val D’Isere RR

Contrarily to popular belief, altitude is not the only factor that makes a resort snow sure.

The historical snow graphs here constructed with data available from www.snow-forecast.com (you will need to subscribe) show that the upper slopes of Les Carroz are more snow sure than even Val D’Isere’s.

It is worth mentioning that Val D’Isere was chosen as a comparison because it is the resort most visited by snow travellers from Britain, therefore it has more of a chance of being familiar and also it is higher than Les Carroz!

This comparison is by no means damning of Val D’Isere (we love it there)however hopefully it will make you think twice about dismissing a resort for being too low.
