The news from the previous week updated every news-worthy Thursday.
Week 17 : April 13th to April 20th : Last week of the season :(
Last week of the season … where do is start !?
There was heliskiing, parties, fancy dress, bbqs, Dom on the decks and the craziest sledge race you have ever seen.
What an end to the season, days of fresh snow, beautiful sunny days and hardly any one around (one day I looked down from a lift and counted 8 tracks on the freshly groomed piste at 14:00) – a heaven sent gift to top off this epic season. The highlight of course has to have been the heliskiing – top 10 things in my life ever. We may try and encourage some of you guys to do this with us next year! We have the contacts now and think we can make the price pretty tempting. I will not waste any more column inches on how cool this was and let the photos do the talking !
Chef has gone back to England with my camera so the pictures of the sledge race will come shortly and I shall follow him shortly, after I have finished my research for Skiology 08 -09 ! Watch this space as we get set for ski world domination !
Week 16 : April 6th to April 13th
The week continued with a mixed array of weather and as you see http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/France/index.html the Grand Massif conditions continue to dominate the top 5 snow conditions in the entire French Alps.
Luke and my absolute highlight of last week must have been when we arrived in Flaine at around 10:00 on Friday (we were taking our clients there so that they could try a new are) and due to the huge snow fall the previous night some of the lifts were delayed in their opening as the pisteurs made sure that all was secure. So there we were at the bottom of the Tete De Lindars as the chair opened and we got the first decent down the Agate piste in knee deep powder, it was SO good we had to do it another 9 times !
Just a quick thank you at the bottom here to the Lyle family for a great week, see you next year !
Week 15 : 30 March – 6th April : Please Lord do not stop giving us these legendary days !
This week was one of Skiology’s legendary long weekends and saw a whole mixture of groups get on amazingly – a bonding night a the ole Club 74 always seems to do it! The snow was amazing and we some perfect days of sun and fresh snow which was excellent because it was some of our guests first time on the Mountain, what a way to fall in love with the sport!
Then we had Monday the 7th April … where were you !?check the video. Monday was one of those legendary perfect days, lots and lots of beautiful fresh snow all the way down to the village and beyond topped of with beautiful sun. We were SO chuffed as we were joined by a family whose last holiday was in Slovinia last Xmas when 6 out of the 7 ski stations were closed and the one that was open was one hour away and had the whole of Slovinia on it … So just imagine comparing that to 268 km of open piste blazing sun and fresh snow ! They deserve every bit of snow we get!
So it is the last week of the season next week but the forecast is
looking snow positive we are just hoping for a bit of Sun for our BBQ
night on Weds watch this space for photos !
Week 14 : 23rd March to the 30 th March, if you like to read about when people get really excited please read on!
P is for powder, U is for uber good week, M is for mammoth amounts of sunshine, P is also for … you get the picture what I am trying to spell is PUMPED!! Before we do the retrospective of last week, here is the current news and the projected news: Last night it snowed, it snowed a lot all the way down to 100 m above the village and now it is snowing deep in to the garden of skiology HQ ! All I can say is Mr Daw, you are going to love your first ever ski trip when you arrive tomorrow and Team Lyle .. you early bookers you … you are going to get all the snow you deserve ! I have said it before and I will say it again … I love this season ! Do not forget there is still spaces over the next couple of weeks, for weeks or weekends if you want to come and check it out !! Well, now that is all over ... here is the retrospective: Last week started off with a lot of snow and some of the best powder days known to man. We had a great group come and stay including repeat client Alaina who after 3 weeks on skis absolutely sleighed a non-pisted black run all the way to the restaurant at the bottom where ones return is assisted by a piste basher! And she was not even feeling that well! Things like that are so awesome to see! We also took the group on a day trip to Chamonix (only 45mins away) to ski the Valle Blanche – a famous off piste itinerary that requires harnesses and full avalanche kit, click here to see the photos (coming Friday). Asides from those huge highlights there was also a great freestyle competition in Flaine and here is to this weekends speed skiing competition and free concert in the Grand Massif … check back next week for photos.
Week 13 : 16th March to the 23 rd March, Week 13 lucky for some !
Team Busset what can we say but thank you SO much for
such a good week … l’orange !? And for those of you who were not here
… this week was Dom’s birthday! There was … crowd surfing, dancing on
tables, falling off tables, trips to the Candide Invitational competition
in La Clusas, fancy dress parties, reggae nights, drum and bass DJs
and most importantly the best snow of the season. I sit here now writing
this as a retrospective of last week however I can not help but excitedly
tell you that the snow over that last week and this week was I quote
Yohan of the ESF “the best in 5 years” .. check the photos
!
Week 12: 9th March to the 16th March, Dom spends time off the slopes ! ?
So, what went down this week !? Well, one of our clients
celebrated her third Skiology holiday, this time bringing along her
family and yes everyone does win a prize for coming away three times
! I was mainly off the slopes this week as a friend came to visit who
does not ski :( This however gave me a chance to see the resort from
a non skiers point of view and I like it – Lunch at the top of Flaine
with the panoramic view of Mont Blanc and the Chamonix valley, snow
shoeing through snowy nature reserves, ice skating, parapenting and
husky rides … okay, we did not do that last 3 but they looked fun! Feel
free to peruse our latest photos (coming on Fiday 21st March)and videos
(thank you John for your contribution to our videos !)
Week 11: 2nd March to the 9th March
Whoa top week ! Thank you to all the guests who were involved in making such a great week. We had many full days of skiing, including a cheeky excursion to the Portes du Soleil – the Portes, is only a 45 minute trip from us and is included on a 6 day lift pass giving access to a whoping 650 km of extra skiing. Let us know if you want to go when you come and stay and we will see what we can do.
This week also saw our own resort flourish with a free test day for all the brand new Rossignol kit for next year. A Nickelodeon parade, hands up who skied with Sponge bob !? National Womens day (the 8th March) with free Massif lift passes for ladies, free roses and instruction on piste and even a Chippendales show in the evening.
This was also the week that the lovely girl who helped us with the
cleaning left us :( to go and work at the E.U ! Best of luck Bryony
and welcome Julia - our new team member !
Week 10 : 24th Feb – 2nd March
Well here I am sat in the chalet writing this a day late (Friday the 7th March) at the tail end of 3 of the greatest weeks so far.
The 17th Feb to the 24 th Feb – The chalet saw a repeat client (from this same season) come back with his family and we watched them all get closer to falling in love with skiing in the way that we are! I really believe that this is an area where we as a company are strong – We have a reliable product that clients can confidently recommend and introduce others too i.e Unlike larger companies, you know that you are going to get the Turner Brothers experience and you can read in the guestbook that you are going to get extremely well fed and well looked after!
Later that week … we had a chalet of mixed guests who all seemed to get on amazingly and it was the ‘best ever’ for us to watch the product that we had dreamed of 2 years ago in an Argentinean Mountain café come to life. I left that week feeling full of inspiration for the future of skiology! You can see some of the fun in our photos and videos
Week 10 – the 24th Feb to the 2nd March, was also a week of 2 halves. The first half was very quite only a few people in the chalet but it was definitely a case of quality over quantity and plans to ski from Flaine to Tignes were formed ! Then the second half of the week saw us full to the brim with our ever popular … long weekends !
Now we normally write these as a retrospective of the past week however
… as a heads up … Winter has returned and we have 3 powder days in a
row! Check out the photos!
Tune in next week for the next update!
Week 9 : 17th Feb – 24th Feb
Click here to read the Febuary newsletter
Week 8 : 10th Feb – 17th Feb
Well … the news would be updated more often if the weather was worse – but with the conditions like this … Mama i’m a going skiing ! This week was the week that our guests showed us by popping of a 40 ft cliff ! Lads we shall try and get your ski out of the tree when the snow melts in April ! :)
Week 7 : 3rd Feb – 10th Feb
Today I am so excited … this season is SO much better than last season.
The snow fall through out January had laid down a great base for February and the sun shining
all this week has not changed the excellent on piste conditions even in the lower down resorts.
I have never experienced the Grand Massif feel so big and with opening of the Tete de Lindars this week (pistes Fred and Agate), this week saw everything open !
Skiology has also never been so busy - having to unfortunately turn away enquiries daily make us sad however puts us in to great steed for a planned expansion
for next year !
Last week was an absolute high light of the season great snow, great guests and great guiding days out !
Week 6 : 27th Jan – 3rd Feb : Some of the best conditions of the season !
The girls from Kingsliff (and now Bath too) returned with a new addition to the team who was more than welcomed
(we would also like to mention here that, Anna – you were solely missed, god speed with your recovery) The team brought with them …
not only Sing star for the Playstaion but a lot of snow too!
The long weekend provided fantastic conditions with the recent snowfall
and all the girls received a sterling commendation for braving the blizzard and coming back with snow angles and genipi.
Week 5 : 20th Jan – 27th jan : Easyjet Easter sale announced ! and Gers opens !

This weekend saw the opening of the Gers ski area in
Flaine. Gers is essentially a huge bowl shaped valley contained only
the Styx piste and the Gers lift. The bowl offers many different off
piste routes (at your own risk) to access the lift; it is essentially
a great off piste area – in fact one of the best Luke and I have skied.
To see the videos please click here.
With more snow forecast for over the weekend, the legendary Fred piste
has been groomed so lets hope the next update is all about it’s opening
! Also weather models are pointing to a returning Winter so lets see
you out here ... click here
for the Easy Jet sale.
Week 4 : 13th Jan – 20th Jan : Encore long weekend ! and Skiology upgrades !
Our long weekends are proving super popular this year
and last week was no exception! We had a cracking group of lads come
and visit – the snow was great and we took the lads out and all spent
a great day together.
The evenings were fuelled, by amongst other things – the edition of
a Nintendo Wii to the chalet – one of the Skiology’s 07 – 08 upgrades.
Please also feel free to check out our new video page ! http://www.youtube.com/user/skiologycouk
Week 3 : 6th Jan – 13th jan : Long weekend, 3 seasons in 3 days ! pictures of Fri, Sat and Sun !
This week we had our first long weekenders of the season and what weather they saw ! Friday was like a Spring day with blissfully soft crystalline snow, Saturday was a powderous snow storm and Sunday was one of those perfect days – tonnes of snow, clear blue skies and tans all round ! What a week !
15th Jan - January Newsletter

Long weekends, great conditions and no-one on the piste ! Click here to read the January newsletter.
Week 2 : 30th Dec – 6th jan New years eve
What a way to fall in love with our resort : This week
the cascades piste opened - 14 km of tranquil, back country blue piste
leading straight in to the heart of the Sixt resort with further pistes
never before skied by us. To top it all off ½ way down the piste there
is a restaurant where they pick you up in a snow mobile and give you
the option to be pulled along behind ! Just like water skiing but on
snow!
This week we saw the New Year in with some phenomenal weather, beautiful
blue sky days and cold temperatures at night holding the snow through
to the end of the week. Big hello to our guest’s who came and thank
you for giving us a great start to the year x click here

Week 1 23rd – 30th Dec Christmas
Okay it is officially the first week of the season!
We have however had guests for the past 2 unofficial weeks. They are
all coming for the same reason – great conditions! New snow falling
every week, sunny days and a freezing level below 1000m (so the old
snow does not melt!) Christmas was cracking fun with Santas in the village,
Santas on snow boards and Santas on Skis.
This was also the week that we learnt from the Telegraph newspaper that
38% of people do not ski when they come to a Ski resort. With this in
mind, we thought that we would try out some of the non – ski activities
available in our resort on behalf of our future clients. Snow shoeing
is a great alternative to skiing, allowing you to still enjoy the beauty
and tranquillity of the mountains, read more about what is on offer
here.
On a complete unrelated tangent, we are putting forward the burger at the top of the DMC in Flaine as the best in the Alps. Think you know of a better one, let us know!?
14th December 2007

We have arrived ! Click here to read the December newsletter.
16th November 2007
Skiing in Les Carroz YESTERDAY !?
If you have not already heard … it will be in ALL the
papers this Sunday … it is snowing in the Alps ! This season is going
to be big ! Ask anyone in a resort at the moment – they say they can
feel it in their bones!? And everyone know that the antithesis to last
years El Nino year is this years La Nina year!? Temperatures are down,
the base level is freezing, flight sales are soaring and resorts are
opening early! And we can’t wait ! :)
26th October 2007 : We are having a party !

27th September 2007 : Fat Duck !

Skiology’s Chef Luke has been offered a placement at Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant; the Fat Duck in Bray. If you haven’t heard, it is ranked as the best restaurant in the UK and No2 in the world. The restaurant is famed for its dishes such as Bacon and Egg ice cream but we have decided not to put this style of cuisine on the menu and are working on a exciting new menu for this season. Luke will be there this Season to share with you his learned culinary experience !
31st August 2007 : Skiology Birthday !

Skiology is 1 years old ! And to celebrate we are having a brand new site build for us due to launch in September. Oh and if you have not heard ... we have secured the same chalet for this season ... We spent time travelling and visiting other resorts and believe us, there is nothing like visiting other resorts to make you realise quite how amazing your own is ! How could we leave when this year when we are organising fondue nights in a tepee and lunch with a return ride in a piste basher for our guests !! more of this on the new site ...
